June Mintues
The June 16, 2008 meeting was called to order by the President. Roll call
was answered by 24 members with several visitors present. The treasurer reported
a new balance of $1307.93 in our checking account. A report on attendance at
the June Sew Days was given.
The New Year's Baby Quilt committee reported that they have enough fabric to
start on the crib quilt. Susan reported that the Quilt Show committee has made
contacts for businesses to provide door prizes and booths at our September Quilt
Show, but that we are still trying to find people to fill spots for the hourly
demonstrations which take place during the show. She also passed out Quilt Information
Sheets. Anyone who would like to display quilts at the Quilt Show will need to
provide information to us about their quilts. She encouraged all members to bring
quilts for the show. It was suggested that these forms also be mailed to our
distance members as they may also have quilts they would like to display.
Our Kansas Crossroads Quilt is finished and ready for display. It was decided
that we would display it first at the Main Street Gallery in Stockton until the
middle of July. Joan N. will be in charge of getting it there. Next, Gladys M.
will make arrangements for the quilt to go to the library in Plainville for two
weeks. Susan Ga. will get a quilt rack and some plastic drop cloth for that display.
We would also like to display the quilt in Palco until fair time. Berdena will
check with the insurance agency to see if they have space there. The quilt will
then be on display at our guild booth at the fair.
The Fair Booth Committee reminded everyone to be finishing their Challenge Projects
as these will be displayed at the Rooks County Fair which is just 8 weeks away!!
Karen gave a description of the new guild t-shirts and polo shirts. They will
be pink to match our old shirts so we will all still look alike. The t-shirts
cost from $10.68 to $12.82 depending on size, and the polo shirts cost $25.63.
Karen would like to have all orders by July 1st!!
The Native Threads Quilt exhibit at the Stockton Public Library was due to come
down this week. Susan asked for volunteers to help take down the display. Donna,
LoraBelle, and Bettie Bo. volunteered to meet at the library at 2 p.m. The Guild
is also paying $100 towards the shipping of this exhibit as was agreed last fall.
A bill in the amount of $119.70 was presented for fabric expenses for our Kansas
Crossroads Raffle Quilt. It was moved and seconded that the bill be allowed.
Susan asked for volunteers to help provide refreshments in July. Bettie Bo. and
Jenny N. volunteered to help Doris S., and Ann C.
It was announced that our Guild would be taking a Quilter's Road Trip to Concordia
on June 18th. All those interested in going were to meet in Stockton at the post
office parking lot. The "riders" would help by paying $5.00 toward
the drivers' gas expense.
Lavern gave a trunk show of her quilts. She told the story behind each one, and
it was revealed that she generally has one quilt in the frame for hand quilting,
one that is at the block piecing stage, and a third being cut out, so she is
always working on the next quilt!! Her quilts were very colorful and beautiful!!
Gladys was the lucky FQ winner. The door prize, furnished by Ann C. was won by
Betty H. It was announced that our next meeting would be July 21st, with the
program to be provided by Quilter's Delight from Holdrege, NE. Our next Sew Days
will be July 9th in Plainville and July 12th in Stockton. Meeting was adjourned.
Dear Quilters;
It finally feels like June! Things are really hopping at my house as the
harvest heat looms nearer each day!! It was great to take a break from
farm work
and meet with all you quilters again!!
I really enjoyed and was inspired by Lavern's trunk show at our last meeting!!
She certainly has some beautiful treasures to pass on to her family. What a
fun program, and I would love to see the creative works of all our talented
members!!!
I know!!! Let's have a Quilt Show where everyone can bring their special quilts
and quilted projects to exhibit!!!
In fact, that event is already on our calendar for September 27th, and preparations
are well underway!! I have Quilt Information Sheets available to collect the "411" on
each individual work of art. We want to have dates, patterns, and stories available
for other quilt lovers and the interested public alike at our September show.
You can bring quilts, new or old, and quilted projects like table runners,
quilted garments, or bags, etc. So, now is the time to start thinking about
what you
want to bring and getting that information to our Quilt Show committee.
I want to mention again that our Kansas Crossroads Quilt is finished and on
display. Grab a friend and show it off to them as it travels from Stockton's
Main Street
Gallery, to the Plainville Library, on to Palco, then the Rooks County Fair!!
I am so proud of this quilt and what our quilt guild has done!! Keep on selling
those raffle tickets!!
We will all be proud in pink in our Crossroads Quilt Guild shirts! Members
have the option of staying with our current shirt, or purchasing a new one
in either
a t-shirt or polo shirt style. Karen R. is taking orders for the shirts and
would like to have all orders in by July 1st!!
Our upcoming Sew Dates are July 9th in Plainville and July 12th in Stockton.
If you haven't finished that Challenge Project yet, bring it to a Sew Day and "Git
'R Done"!! We will be collecting those for a display at the Rooks County
Fair!!
I am really sorry I had to miss the Quilter's Road Trip to Concordia. I know
everyone had an absolutely wonderful time!! However, the gals from Quilter's
Delight in Holdrege will be providing a trunk show at our July 21st meeting,
so we all have that to look forward to!!! Ladies bringing refreshments for
that meeting are: Doris, Jenny, Ann, and Bettie Bo.
See you then!!
Susan G : ))

I have decided to challenge each of us a little bit this year. I have broken the year down into 4 sections. Each section will focus on a different technique. Each month will be a block that you could save and put with other blocks or you might decide to make a completed project based on that block. The first three months will be paper piecing blocks, then applique blocks, then some large blocks for fun and finally some blocks that are a combination of all three. I think many of the blocks will make great table runners, placemats, or small wall hangings, as well as full size quilts.
July's block is Woven Path (24" Block) http://www.quilterscache.com/W/WovenPathsBlock.html
June's block is Patchwork Butterfly http://www.quilterscache.com/P/PatchworkButterflyBlock.html
