Dear Quilters;

A lot has happened since our September meeting!! After much planning and anticipation, we hosted our 2008 Quilt Show on September 29th, and had a wonderful turnout to view the 144 quilts and quilted projects we had on display. The quilts were beautiful, the demonstrations were fun, our vendors offer a nice variety of goods, and everything went very smoothly. I will wait until our October meeting to reveal the results of the public vote for "Best of Show" and "Best Challenge Quilt Project", but I can tell you that Chris Sander won the "Kansas Crossroads" raffle quilt. She purchased her ticket from LoraBelle Sander, who will receive a $50.00 gift certificate for her salesmanship. And Joan Northup was the winner of the cute appliqued Barn Quilt, as part of our drawing for those members who worked so hard to make the raffle quilt a reality.

I want to thank everyone who helped and participated before, during, and after the quilt show. It was so nice to have tall, strong "manpower" to help speed the hard jobs along, so please pass my thanks on to your family members and spouses. Many people working together sure does help make any job more enjoyable, and I had fun working with all of you! The run to DQ for ice cream was a nice finish to the weekend.

The weather is turning cooler and October is upon us. The Material Girls Quilt Guild in Phillipsburg is hosting a special Trunk Show for Jeanne Poore at 7:00 p.m. in Phillipsburg at the Golden Years Center. There is an admission charge for this event.

Sew Days for October are scheduled for October 8th at Plainville and October 11th at Stockton. Bettie Bo. will need to pick up the key for sew day since Elda will be gone. Plans for the Stockton Sew Day include tufting or tying a quilt for the upcoming October 21st Telethon, so please come and help us finish that project.

Our next regular meeting is October 20, 2008 -- please feel free to invite a new friend to talk quilting with us!! Refreshments for the October 20th meeting are to be provided by Betty Be, Donna G, and Cindy A.
Until then -- Keep on quilting!!
Susan : ))

Put these dates on your calendar:

October 3: Jeanne Poore Trunk Show in P-burg
October 8: Sew Day in P-ville
October 11: Sew Day in Stockton
October 20: Quilt Guild Meeting

I have decided to challenge each of us a little bit this year. I have broken the year down into 4 sections. Each section will focus on a different technique. Each month will be a block that you could save and put with other blocks or you might decide to make a completed project based on that block. The first three months will be paper piecing blocks, then applique blocks, then some large blocks for fun and finally some blocks that are a combination of all three. I think many of the blocks will make great table runners, placemats, or small wall hangings, as well as full size quilts.

October's block is Snowball 2 (8" block) http://www.quilterscache.com/S/Snowball2Block.html

September's block is Indian Square (20" Block) http://www.quilterscache.com/I/IndianSquaresBlock.html

August's block is Easy Carpenter's Wheel http://www.quilterscache.com/C/CarpentersWheelBlock.html

July's block is Woven Path (24" Block) http://www.quilterscache.com/W/WovenPathsBlock.html

June's block is Patchwork Butterfly http://www.quilterscache.com/P/PatchworkButterflyBlock.html

May's block is Moon Over the Mountain http://www.quilterscache.com/M/MoonOvertheMountainBlock.html

April's block is a simple appliqué Butter and Eggs Block http://www.quilterscache.com/B/Butter&EggsBlock.html

March's block is a simple Farm Friendliness http://www.quilterscache.com/F/FarmFriendlinessBlock.html

February's block is a simple Cock's Comb 6" Block. http://www.quilterscache.com/C/CocksCombBlock.html

January's block is a simple Geometry 8" Block. http://www.quilterscache.com/G/GeometryBlock.html
