Dear Crossroad Quilters
April's meeting was jam-packed with great ideas, good food, and lots of fun!!
From deelybobs, to rippers, to sidewinders, each member brought an assortment
of quilting gadgets, in addition to their awesome quilting projects, to share
during our informal roll call.
Our treasurer, Marily, has completed an audit of our finances, and passed out a spreadsheet with pie charts which illustrated our main sources of income and outflow. This was very informative, and will be a useful budget tool as we progress with our plans for our quilt show this fall. For those of you who are just a little behind, there is still time to pay dues, but please try to get these in as soon as possible.
We all got a chance to "ooh" and "ah" over our beautiful "Kansas Crossroads" story quilt. It is approximately 90" x 105" (queen size) and is so colorful and unique. Each area of our Kansas heritage is somehow represented in this quilt, and it comes with the story printed on the back side. It is now ready to be quilted and, when finished, we will display it at various locations to make sure everyone gets a chance to look it over. There will also be a picture of it available for viewing on our Crossroads Quilt Guild website.
We have already begun selling raffle tickets on this quilt with the lucky winner's ticket to be drawn at our quilt show in September. The ticket prices are one for $1.00, or 6 tickets for $5.00 Everyone will want a chance to win this special quilt, so get busy selling raffle tickets!! You can get the raffle tickets from me or Idona, or you can go to www.crossroadquilters.org and print them off the website. Make sure to include your name on the ticket along with the name of the person purchasing the ticket. As in the past, the quild member who sells the winning ticket will also receive a prize!! The completed ticket comes back to us to be entered in the drawing. Keep the tickets and the money together until you have a chace to get them to me or to Marilyn.
That is not the only drawing that will be held in connection with our opportunity quilt. Such a work of art required the hands of many talented quilters, and their efforts will not go un-rewarded!! Everyone who worked on our raffle quilt is eligivle to win a beautifully quilted wallhanging created and donated by Courtney. For every three (3) hours of sewing or stitiching, a member is eligible to put one chance into the pot. The more hours donated, the more chances with your name on them to go into the drawing. Don't panic if you have zero hours, there is still a need for colunteers to sew on the binding, etc. The drawing for this "incentive" quilted wallhanging will also take place at our Quilt Show in September.
The Quilt Show committee met and are ready to send out letters to potential vendors for our Quilt Show. A committee was formed to check into getting new t-shirts for our quild members this year. Karen and Jana are on this committee and will come back next month with some ideas and prices.
Marilyn and Elaine are still asking for 6 1/2" pastel colored squares to use in the New Years Baby Quilt. Don't forget to be working on your challenge quilt as these will be part of our fair booth. Rules and guidelines are on our website or I have extra copies if you need one.
Please note: The next Stockton Sew Day will be May 3rd at the Senior Center. This is a change from our normal meeting date. Our next fuild meeting is Monday night, May 19th, and refreshments will be provided by Betty H., Elaine H., Sue M., and Joan N.
Be sure to keep Saturday, September 27th open -- we will need members of all ages and abilities to help with quilt show activities. So, mark that date with a big red circle on your calendars!!
Untill next time-Happy Quilting!!!
Susan : )

I have decided to challenge each of us a little bit this year. I have broken the year down into 4 sections. Each section will focus on a different technique. Each month will be a block that you could save and put with other blocks or you might decide to make a completed project based on that block. The first three months will be paper piecing blocks, then applique blocks, then some large blocks for fun and finally some blocks that are a combination of all three. I think many of the blocks will make great table runners, placemats, or small wall hangings, as well as full size quilts.
January's block is a simple Geometry 8" Block. http://www.quilterscache.com/G/GeometryBlock.html
February's block is a simple Cock's Comb 6" Block. http://www.quilterscache.com/C/CocksCombBlock.html
March's block is a simple Farm Friendliness http://www.quilterscache.com/F/FarmFriendlinessBlock.html
April's block is a simple appliqué Butter and Eggs Block http://www.quilterscache.com/B/Butter&EggsBlock.html
May's block is Moon Over the Mountain http://www.quilterscache.com/M/MoonOvertheMountainBlock.html
