Karen called the meeting to order and everyone enjoyed the wonderful potluck
supper. After the meal we had roll call and ?Show and Tell'.
Eleven Guild members brought their finished 2007 Block of the Month quilt
top to be eligible for the $100 prize. Karen R. was the lucky winner.
Membership dues are due for 2008. Either give or send them to Marilyn
our new treasurer.
Janie gave the financial and a motion was made to pay bills and motion
carried. Janie also showed the New Years Baby Quilt she had finished
and we are just
waiting on a New Years Baby to give it to.
We have decided to donate a quilt for the Telethon next October. Jana
made the motion to donate a quilt, it was seconded and motion carried.
Joan and Courtney are setting up a sew evening for our Raffle Quilt and
the dates will be announced later.
February Sew days are Saturday February 9th in Stockton and Wednesday
February 12th in Plainville.
Remember the Birthday FQ Swap and watch your calendars.
Kenda was asked to be the Quilt Guild Historian and she agreed to take
the job.
Janie won the Door Prize provided by Karen and Berdena won 16 FQ's in
the FQ Drawing.
Next month's meeting is February 18th and the ladies signed up for refreshment
are Gladys, Marge, Susan G. and Bertha.
The Quilt Guild presented Karen R. with a gift certificate for appreciation
for being a great President.
Happy Quilting!!!
From the President 1/25/08
Dear Crossroad Quilters;
Greetings from your new president!! I would like to start this, my first president's
letter, by expressing my gratitude to our retiring officers: Karen R., Annette,
Karen B., and Janie. They worked so well together and did an awesome job of keeping
things running smoothly and keeping us inspired. Please bear with me as I try
to learn the ropes without too much confusion. Also, a note of thanks to our
technology person -- Jana. She does a lot of work behind the scenes and I so
appreciate her willingness to carry on with those responsibilities.
This is the start of a new year for Crossroad Quilt Guild, and that means it
is time to pay dues again. The dues are $15.00 and need to be sent to Marilyn
D. our new treasurer. I will also have Jana include a copy of our Crossroad Quilt
Guild Bylaws, our 2008 Standing Committees, and Refreshment Committees on our
website, so that information will always be available.
Besides myself, the other new officers for this year include Gladys, Marilyn,
Cindy, and Kenda. In addition to our normal monthly meetings and programs, 2008
is the year we host a CR Quilt Show in Stockton and so it is very important that
we have all our committees up and running as we work toward that event. Courtney
and Joan have been working very hard on a Kansas themed quilt top for our raffle
quilt. We need to dedicate time at home or on sew dates to help them get that
all put together. Kenda has volunteered to act as our historian and compile news
clippings and pictures into a scrapbook. Lets all work together to make this
a memorable year!!
In the meantime, we have finished up some activities from 2007. Our postponed
Christmas party and gift exchange was held on January 21st. The food was fabulous,
and many useful and creative gifts were unwrapped. Betty B. had quilted ornaments
from our library tree to be returned to members or passed on to next year's library
committee. Janie brought the finished New Year's Baby Quilt for us to see. It
is beautiful and we are now just waiting for some lucky little newborn to claim
it!! Eleven Guild members brought their finished 2007 Block of the Month quilt
tops in for show and tell. In the drawing that followed, Karen R. was the lucky
winner of $100 to use in finishing her quilt. As you can read in the minutes,
it was a busy yet fun-filled evening!!
When the weather is so cold outside, the best way to keep warm is to get wrapped
up in a quilting project. These next few weeks will be good opportunities to
work on your Challenge Fabric projects, and to come to a Sew Day (to help finish
the quilt we are donating to the Telethon, or make a few blocks for our "Kansas
Theme" raffle quilt). Please remember to check your calendar and spoil your
quilting friends with a birthday FQ!!
At our Feb 18th meeting, we will be making trees using the Paper Piecing method.
Bring a sewing machine, sewing essentials, and blue, green, or brown fabric scraps
( 3" x 5") to use on this small scaled project. The members who signed
up for refreshments next month are: Gladys, Marge, Susan G, and Bertha.
Happy Quilting!
Susan : ))

I have decided to challenge each of us a little bit this year. I have broken the year down into 4 sections. Each section will focus on a different technique. Each month will be a block that you could save and put with other blocks or you might decide to make a completed project based on that block. The first three months will be paper piecing blocks, then applique blocks, then some large blocks for fun and finally some blocks that are a combination of all three. I think many of the blocks will make great table runners, placemats, or small wall hangings, as well as full size quilts.
February's block is a simple Cock's Comb 6" Block. http://www.quilterscache.com/C/CocksCombBlock.html
