July 2008 Minutes

July 21, 2008 the meeting was called to order by Susan G. The North side ladies were the first in the service line tonight.

Our program this evening was presented by Janet Kugler of Quilters Delight in Holdredge, NE.
She has had her shop there since 1991. She shared many historical ideas about quilting and had a lot of finished projects she brought along to share. We all gleaned great information from her and was able to touch and view closer at break.

Roll call was answered by 29 members present and we had 1 visitor, plus our speaker and friend.

Marilyn D gave the financial report.

Many finished projects were shared this evening and several challenge projects were shown as well. Keep working on those challenge projects ladies for the Rooks County Fair. We need to have those projects to Karen, Fair Committee Chairperson, the week before the fair or the morning of the 9th at the fair grounds by 9:30 a.m. Please have your names on them AND these are the only entries this year for the fair at our booth. We need volunteers for the set up. Plus, you will need to pick up your projects on the 16th of August between 4:00-5:00 p.m.

Karen reported last chance to get shirts ordered and they need paid for now.

Sew days reported: Stockton did not have one as center was being cleaned. Plainville had 4 in attendance. Sew dates for August - NONE in Plainville as will be setting up for RC Fair and August 2nd in Stockton if center is available.

Raffle quilt tickets are being sold and we are all encouraged to keep selling more. Marilyn reported that so far we have $513 in sales. (several tickets and a good amount of money handed in tonight)…Keep up the good work ladies.

Reminder of our quilt show nearing on September. Anyone willing to demonstrate ideas please contact Susan .
Concordia Quilt trip reported on by Janice and was enjoyed by 6 ladies; they found good bargains.
A motion was made and carried that whomever sells the winning ticket for the Kansas quilt will win a $50 gift certificate or cash equivalent.

Eleanor Burns' sister will be here September 6th at 7:00 p.m. at the City Hall for another demonstration. Mark your calendars ladies.

Refreshments for August meeting are to be served by: Jana, Cindy , Betty Bo and Susan Ga

Door prize was won by Karen B. & fat quarters won by Marilyn.

August meeting will be the 18th.

Meeting was adjourned.
Co-Secretary Kenda

Dear Quilters;

I was so impressed by all that was shared at our July meeting!! Our program, Janet Kugler, talked about how our quilts reflect our lives, and as she showed her "life story" in quilts, she described some very interesting new and old quilting techniques. I was especially impressed by all the beautiful items displayed during roll call. You gals have really been busy this past month!! And, after hearing how much fun everyone had on the Quilters' Road trip to Concordia, I was really in the mood to get back to my sewing projects again!!

I stopped by to see our raffle quilt at the Main Street Gallery in Stockton and at the Plainville Library. It looks great and continues to attract a lot of attention! We plan to have the quilt on display at the Rooks County Fair, August 10th - 16th, and we will be selling tickets at our quilt booth in the 4-H Building from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Many of you signed up last night to help with the raffle quilt sales -- THANK YOU!!! For guild members who didn't get a chance to sign up, we still have spots open on Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday afternoons, or feel free to come by and help any afternoon you can be at the fair grounds.

Our Crossroads Quilt Guild Fair Booth will be set up on Saturday, August 8th and will feature only Challenge Quilt Items. Guild members please bring your item to the 4-H Building by Saturday at 9:30 a.m. or get it to Karen or Joan by Friday, August 7th. These items will remain in the booth during the fair and then can be picked up on Saturday, August 16th. Please have you name on your quilted item so it can be returned to the right person when fair week is over.
Last year we had a good turnout of members who displayed their handiwork at the fair. The Crossroads Quilt Guild sponsors a cash prize for a winning quilt in Open Class. Maybe this year's ribbon will hang on one of your quilts!!

We all have a busy August ahead of us, but don't forget about all the fun things we are doing in September!!! Pat Knoechel, as a representative for Quilt-In-A-Day, will be in Stockton on September 6th. Quilting friends and the general public will be invited to attend this Trunk Show, and we will be calling on guild members to provide cookies/refreshments.
Also on September 27th, just 9 weeks away, we will host our own Quilt Show!! The t-shirts have been ordered, vendors contacted, and now we need to start collecting information on the quilts or quilted items you would like to display!! These could be family heirlooms or your latest designs!! If you need a quilt information sheet just let me know. Also, if you have any ideas for quilt-related demonstrations that could be offered at our quilt show, please share those with Nikki, Idona, or myself.

There will be NO Sew Day in Plainville in August. Stockton Sew Date has been set for August 2nd (which is the first Saturday --- same place, just a different weekend). Please keep LeeAnn, Gladys, and Barbara in mind as they are currently dealing with medical issues that keep them from enjoying their normal routines. Our next meeting will be August 18th and Jana, Cindy A., Susan Ga, and Bettie are providing refreshments.

Until next time -- Happy Quilting!!!
Susan G : ))

I have decided to challenge each of us a little bit this year. I have broken the year down into 4 sections. Each section will focus on a different technique. Each month will be a block that you could save and put with other blocks or you might decide to make a completed project based on that block. The first three months will be paper piecing blocks, then applique blocks, then some large blocks for fun and finally some blocks that are a combination of all three. I think many of the blocks will make great table runners, placemats, or small wall hangings, as well as full size quilts.

August's block is Easy Carpenter's Wheel http://www.quilterscache.com/C/CarpentersWheelBlock.html

July's block is Woven Path (24" Block) http://www.quilterscache.com/W/WovenPathsBlock.html

June's block is Patchwork Butterfly http://www.quilterscache.com/P/PatchworkButterflyBlock.html

May's block is Moon Over the Mountain http://www.quilterscache.com/M/MoonOvertheMountainBlock.html

April's block is a simple appliqué Butter and Eggs Block http://www.quilterscache.com/B/Butter&EggsBlock.html

March's block is a simple Farm Friendliness http://www.quilterscache.com/F/FarmFriendlinessBlock.html

February's block is a simple Cock's Comb 6" Block. http://www.quilterscache.com/C/CocksCombBlock.html

January's block is a simple Geometry 8" Block. http://www.quilterscache.com/G/GeometryBlock.html
