Dear Crossroad Quilters
What a nice group we had for our March meeting!! I really enjoyed the
beautiful quilts and projects that were shared during our roll call. Little
Saj Isabella Snyder was our special guest, along with her mother, sister, & grandmother,
and she received the 2008 New Year's Baby quilt!!
Courtney and Joan had our Kansas Story book quilt blocks laid out on display and we could see how the sashings and borders are going to tie our raffle quilt all together. We hope to have it completed soon so a picture of it can be taken and we all can start selling raffle tickets. I think there are going to be many chances sold as this will be a very special quilt!!
Kenda has made a good start on our Crossroads Quilt Guild scrapbook. She appreciates pictures --- and especially would like to know the story behind the picture or the full names of the members who are pictures. However, please DO NOT write on the back of the pictures in ink as it will eventually mar the front of the photo. Instead, number the photos and then attach a note with the corresponding names, etc.
Our program was very interesting and generated a lot of discussion. Dennis Duncan makes a hobby of restoring old sewing machines and he brought his little fleet of Singers for us to see and to sew on!!! I have an old Royal model treadle machine in the basement and I was encouraged by the information Dennis shared. Maybe that old machine can become functional again!!
Marilyn and Elaine are asking for pastel (baby colors) fabrics for the 2009 New Year's Baby quilt. They are doing the "Square within a Square" block and need either one 6" square or a strip 3 /12" x 20".
April is quickly approaching and I want you all to note the change in day and time for the Stockton Sew Day. It will be a SEW NIGHT on April 14th starting at 5 pm at the Senior Center in Stockton. If you can't make it at five o'clock, just come when you can and stay as late as you can!! Plainville's Sew Day will be as usual on April the 9th.
Our next guild meeting will be April 21st, and those providing the refreshments are Kenda, Erma, Janice, and Linda St.
We are moving into the spring season and the colorful blooms I am seeing in my flower gardens are motivating me to turn to brighter colors in my quilting project, too!! Until next time . . . happy quilting!!
Susan : ))

I have decided to challenge each of us a little bit this year. I have broken the year down into 4 sections. Each section will focus on a different technique. Each month will be a block that you could save and put with other blocks or you might decide to make a completed project based on that block. The first three months will be paper piecing blocks, then applique blocks, then some large blocks for fun and finally some blocks that are a combination of all three. I think many of the blocks will make great table runners, placemats, or small wall hangings, as well as full size quilts.
January's block is a simple Geometry 8" Block. http://www.quilterscache.com/G/GeometryBlock.html
February's block is a simple Cock's Comb 6" Block. http://www.quilterscache.com/C/CocksCombBlock.html
March's block is a simple Farm Friendliness
