Volume 4, Issue 10 October 2006

Karen called the meeting to order. After refreshments we had “Show and
Tell” with helpful hints and new sewing and quilting gadgets that make our
quilting faster and easier. Janie gave the financial report. A motion was made
to pay bills. Motion was seconded and carried. Annette read a Thank You note
from the George Whisman family.
Karen thanked
everyone that helped with the Pat Knoechel program September 9th. We
had a very successful response with 78 people registering. We had ladies from:
Norton, Phillipsburg, Palco, Plainville, Hays, Woodston, Topeka, Jennings,
Goodland, Zurich, Alton, Prairie View, Logan, Chapman, and Stockton.
We discussed
having a library of quilt books, owned by the guild that would be available for
guild members to check out for one month. Jana will be in charge or providing
the library cards. We hope all members will take advantage of this program.
The New Year’s
Baby Quilt Committee reported the quilt was cut out and sewing will proceed
at sew days.
It was decided
to make two I Spy quilts for donation. All members are encouraged to donate
2-6” blocks with appropriate figures and bring them to the next meeting. Jenny
will be the contact person for this quilt.
We will have the
Christmas party at the December meeting. We will have a potluck supper and the
gift exchange will be $10-$15 gift limit.
We decided to
continue the Birthday FQ Swap program. We will have sign up sheets at the Oct
and Nov meetings.
A motion was
made and passed to put up a Christmas Tree for the Parade of Trees at the
library. Betty Bedore is the contact person for more information.
It was decided
to make some lap sized quilts for the Cancer Center. The quilts will be
constructed from the donated quilt blocks.
October Sew Days
are Wednesday Oct 11 in Plainville and Saturday Oct 14 in Stockton. During the
Stockton Sew day Joann Shellito from Glade will teach the Stack and Whack
quilting technique. Anyone interested in learning this fun way of quilting is
invited to attend.
If you are
participating in the Birthday FQ Swap, remember to check your calendars.
The Door Prize
was provided by Denise David and won by Susan Greibel. Elaine won 21 FQ’s in
the FQ’s Drawing.
Next month’s
meeting is October 16th and the refreshment committee is: Susan,
Annette and Ann. Happy Quilting!

Dear Crossroad Quilters
A big Thank You to all who donated pies and helped work the Pfannenstiel auction last Saturday. Everything went great, and I think we made quite a bit of money. Thanks to Janice for all the work she did in planning and getting this all together.
Saturday, Oct. 14th is our next Sew Day in Stockton. Joan & her daughters from Glade will be there to teach a class on Stack & Whack. If you need help with picking out fabric, or how much you need, contact Elda Hamit. I also have the book, and will try to help if you need it -- although I've never done one before. We will also be working on our Charity & Baby quilts that day, so feel free to come help with those if you would like. You are also welcome to bring your own project to work on.
Plainville Sew Day is Oct. 11th.
At our last meeting, it was we decided to make a few kids "I Spy" quilts to donate when needed. Each member is asked to donate 2 6"(cut) squares of novelty fabric. Example -- a fabric with cars, teddy bears, bugs etc. on it. If the item to spy is large, please try to center it in the square, or bring a bigger piece, and we'll be happy to cut it for you.
We will have sign up sheets at our Oct. & Nov. meetings for next years committees. Please be thinking of how you want to help us out.
We will also have a sign up sheet for our Birthday FQ Swap for next year.
Also, keep in mind that we will have election of officers in November. If you would like to be an officer, please let me know.
I have delivered the Eleanor Burns books to the libraries in Plainville & Stockton. Karen B. delivered the one to Palco.
Please read the minutes to find out all other information.
Next month's meeting is October 16th. Those in charge of refreshments are: Susan Gartrell, Annette Look, and Diane Maddy.
Joan Balderston will give the program.
Happy Quilting!
